Welcome to our Resource Library. Here you will find explainer videos and all sorts of resources to help you and your little one.
This is the perfect place to start. Lessons 1 to 8. Your child will learn all of their initial letter sounds in this section including: s, a, t, p, i, n and lots more!
In this section your child will learn blending and start to blend CVC words, which are three letter words with three sounds.
If your child has completed sections 1 and 2, they can move onto their phase 3 sounds.
In this section you will find 15 minute daily Phonics videos. I will go through a mixture of Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds – usually 3 of each so 6 sounds in total and 6 songs!
Phonics is the foundation of reading and an essential skill for your child.
Phonics is a method of teaching and learning to read that focuses on the relationship between letters and sounds. It involves teaching children the sounds that individual letters and letter combinations make, and how these sounds can be blended together to form words.
Phonics is important because it helps children understand the fundamental principles of reading. By learning letter sounds and how they combine, children can decode words and improve their reading fluency and comprehension. Phonics lays the foundation for effective reading skills.
Phonics instruction can begin as early as preschool or even earlier, depending on the child's readiness and interest. Most children start learning phonics in nursery or reception (around 4 to 5 years old).
The time it takes for a child to learn phonics can vary depending on several factors, such as the child's age, prior exposure to reading, and individual learning pace. Generally, children make significant progress in phonics within a few months of consistent instruction and practice.
Effective phonics teaching methods often involve a combination of strategies. Some common methods include using letter-sound associations, phonics games, word blending and segmenting activities, guided reading, and interactive phonics apps or programmes.
There are several resources you can use to support your child's phonics learning at home, such as alphabet books, phonics workbooks, flashcards, online phonics games and apps, and engaging storybooks that emphasize phonics patterns.
If your child is experiencing difficulties with phonics, it's important to provide additional support and practice. Consider seeking guidance from your child's teacher or a literacy specialist who can recommend targeted interventions and strategies to address specific areas of struggle.
While phonics is an important component of reading instruction, it is not the sole method. A well-rounded reading program incorporates various strategies, including phonics, sight words, vocabulary development, reading comprehension skills, and exposure to rich and diverse texts.
Remember, every child learns at their own pace, so be patient and provide consistent support and encouragement throughout their phonics journey.
